Can We Interest You in Some Grapefruit?
No, we aren’t talking about everyone’s favorite diet food, we are discussing the Spring Training Grapefruit League games! The Baltimore Orioles makes their spring home right here in Sarasota at the Ed Smith Stadium, located at 2700 12th Street, and the Pittsburgh Pirates call LECOM Park, 1611 Ninth Street West in Bradenton their Spring Training home away from home. The games are played at different stadiums throughout Central Florida in late February and all of March, and RentTheKeys offers vacation sanctuaries in many of the towns, so be sure to check the Grapefruit League schedule to see if your Florida travels coincide with one of your favorite MLB teams’ Spring Training games.
Ringling by the Bay, Mondays through May 20
If Mondays depress you at home, you will be delighted to discover depression is not allowed in Sarasota, and Ringling by the Bay will help kick the blues to the curb. This special event takes place every Monday, (this event started in January) offering live music by a different band each Monday to which you can dance the night away. Also offering food and drinks for purchase, ensuring that your Sarasota Monday nights will be more than you dreamed they could be. The shows start at 6 PM and end at 9 PM and tickets cost $25 per person. The venue, of course is the Ringling Museum Grounds, located at 5401 Bay Shore Road.
The World Series of Comedy, April 10-13
This World Series of Comedy has absolutely nothing to do with baseball and everything to do with making visitors laugh until their jaws and bellies ache. 40 of the nation’s up and coming professional comics travel the nation, competing against each other to win a place in the comedy finals held in Las Vegas.
H & R Gem Shows, Sarasota Spring Show, April 19-21
It is always fun to explore the gem and mineral shows that pop up in different parts of the nation, and H&R Gem Shows will give you the opportunity to find something pretty and help you discover your creative side as you take the gems you purchase from the show and create jewelry that will be that much more special, simply because you made it yourself. Selling and displaying beads, jewelry, minerals, and gemstones, this exciting show is destined to be a favorite part of your getaway.
4th Annual Taco & Tequila Crawl, April 27, 5-10 PM
We honestly can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday evening, eating tacos, drinking tequila, and exploring the town of Sarasota one bar at a time. Admission price includes drink specials at each of the five bars included, VIP shirts, giveaways, and even photographers set up along the way, helping to document the good times that you may very possibly not be able to remember the next day! Regular ticket price (does not include the t-shirt) is $20 per person, but the VIP Taco Crawl Ticket costs $10 more.
