Rainbow Spring Florida has known many names over its long and storied existence, starting with the name the Seminoles gave it so many centuries ago, Wekiwa Creek. Until the 1930s it was known as Blue Spring, when its potential as a tourist attraction had it become known as what we know it as today, Rainbow Spring. Offering evidence that people have gathered here for over 10,000 years, it is the 4th largest spring in the state, pumping out over 450 million gallons of water each day. Turquoise waters sparkle against an emerald-green landscape, offering an appeal that attracts visitors by the thousands and although it is now a state park and no longer a privately owned tourist attraction, vestiges of its more recent past can still be spotted. Stunning gardens, faux waterfalls, and wooden pathways leading over water and through dense jungles will charm and amaze and if the walk gets a little too warm, a dip in the springs will cool you down, much as it has done for visitors for thousands of years.
Summer Adventures at Rainbow Spring
Although popular year-round, the summer months are when the springs reach their peak popularity, offering canoe and kayak rentals, tubing, and concession services ensuring that visitors do not have to leave the park when hunger pangs strike. All of the listed activities can be participated in year round, however, the food services is limited to weekends, after the first week in October.
