The year-round sun and warmth of Florida make it the ideal destination any time of year. Pack your bags and gather your friends and family for a fun and exciting vacation full of fun, sand, and sun this Labor Day. Set your sights on Sarasota and the surrounding area and its many exciting offerings and you’ll build a Labor Day retreat to keep you happy and busy throughout your Sarasota Labor Day weekend stay and memories to last a lifetime.
A Florida beach vacation, no matter what time of year you need a break, without a visit to its beaches, is virtually unheard of. Pack up your group and your beach gear and make the short trip to the sand, sun, and fun you came to experience. While taking a dip in the shimmering waters of the Gulf of Mexico are cooling in anticipation of fall and winter weather, there are plenty of things to do on land – like take a walk, sit and soak up the sun, read, or watch the kids build sandcastles. Whether you choose one of our rentals on the mainland or surround yourself with water, the many area beaches are a top priority for any Florida getaway.
Anna Maria Island Historical Museum
Take some time out of your busy schedule of Sarasota Labor Day activities to learn about the nearby islands. The Anna Maria Island Historical Museum is loaded with history and treasures from the locale’s past. Visit the old city jail, now an Anna Maria tourist spot but previously the actual city jail that was in use until the 1940s. Learn about the many Hollywood movies shot in the area, like Palmetto and The Perfect Storm, and even early life on the island dating all the way back to evidence of Native American cultures in 700 AD.
Art, history, circus memorabilia, gardens, a historic theater, and even more await you at the unique property. The grounds and its many nooks and crannies preserve the legacy of John and Mable Ringling. John is one of five brothers who formed the Ringling Brothers Circus. Wander around and visit places like the State Art Museum of Florida, two circus museums, an education center, the historic Ca’ d’Zan Mansion, Bayfront Gardens, and the Historic Asolo Theater. The grounds and gardens are free to visit, and admission to the Museum of Art is free on Mondays.
Paradise Boat Tours
A great way to get to know the area you’ve decided to call home for the Labor Day holiday is to get out and explore. While exploring on land is easy, you’ll want to get familiar with the waters of the Gulf, too. Based in Bradenton Beach, Paradise Boat Tours offers fully narrated, 90-minute tours of the Intracoastal waterways. Keep your camera ready and your eyes peeled for sea life including dolphins, manatees, rays, and more! Plan a private tour and pack a picnic, including your favorite alcoholic beverages.
Bishop Museum of Science and Nature
Florida is one of the best places to find a variety of nature’s best. From inland lakes – including dune lakes – and the picturesque shores of the Gulf coast to wildlife that live on land or inhabit the sea, there’s a lot to see and learn about Florida’s unique ecosystem. For some indoor fun away from the heat and sun, head to the Bishop Museum of Science and Nature, formerly the South Florida Museum, in Bradenton. Prepare for fun and learning this Labor Day with a number of permanent and rotating exhibits, meaning no two visits will ever be alike! Don’t miss the manatee habitat where you’ll meet the manatees and learn about manatee rehabilitation or visit the planetarium for an awesome show.

The special room is available on a limited basis, so make sure to book in advance.
